Killing People Fictitiously

You have seen by now the copious amounts of news coverage of the Orlando club shootings.  It is just deplorable what depths some will go to when they disagree with an opinion, a way of life, or any aspect they do not feel is appropriate.  We have no right to inflict one ideology onto another.  Everyone is free to be themselves, to love whom they wish, without being fearful of those around them.  On the grand scheme of things – whether you are gay, straight, or otherwise – how was a group of people dancing in a club causing harm to anyone?  Just because someone’s lifestyle differs from yours does not give you the right to exact any extreme action upon them.  No one person is judge, jury, and executioner.  No group can determine another group is ‘wrong’ just because they are not like them.

As a murder-mystery writer, I merely write about such despicable acts as murder.  They are stories.  Works of fiction that satisfy a genre of writing to be read by those who enjoy reading the genre.  Creating a scenario that is completely fictitious in nature is one thing.  The only time where plotting a murder should be considered an acceptable act is when it is done in pursuit of a work of fiction.  Murder-mystery writing: the crafting of how human nature reacts to murder in what could be considered a safe environment (i.e., the world of make believe) – this happens to be one of the few, if only instances where the word “safe” and “murder” could be used in the same sentence.  It is times like these that it is hard to imagine what I type exists in the real world; how something someone reads for entertainment is what someone finds to be a solution to whatever issue they are experiencing.

I find that I am at a loss for words.  It is a horrific act carried out by single person.  While the media will speculate for days on the motives, it is virtually irrelevant in the respect that this act should never have been a solution.  What happened is a tragedy.  The loss of life is tremendous.  The life-affirming celebration of gathering and dancing ended in such horror.  These were people of many races and genders just enjoying each other’s company.  The words ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ adorns a wall in my home.  These words should represent some of the basic aspects of life.  Too often this is not the case.

This scale of devastation is going to be considered many things by those reporting on the events of that early morning.  Some will call it an act of terrorism.  There will be those that will call it a hate crime.  The label is also irrelevant.  It, for lack of any title, was uncalled for, unwarranted, and unfathomable.  The outpouring of emotion from the city and around the world gives me hope for humanity.  Over 10,000 people gathered in London alone.  Candle light ceremonies where scattered all over the globe in a show of solidarity with Orlando.  It shows that community is not just a local concept.  Human is human, love is love.

  1. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems
of plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either authored myself or
outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being stolen? I’d truly appreciate it.

    1. I make sure I got my releases copyrighted at release. I try to monitor where my book is listed with alerts to let me know if my work appears anywhere, but it is hard to lock it all down. At least with the copyright I have a legal stance to pursue those who try to use my material without permission.

The words in your content seem to be running off
the screen in Opera. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know.
The design and style look great though! Hope you get the problem fixed soon. Cheers
